Most students don't lose arithmetic marks because they don't know the formula. They lose them because they take the four-step route when a one-line route was sitting right there. That's 90 seconds gone on a question that should have taken 40. Do that five times in a section and you've lost a whole question's worth of time without noticing.

A price goes up 20%, then down 20%. What's the net change?

The long way: 4 steps
  1. Let the price be 100
  2. Up 20%: 100 + 20 = 120
  3. Down 20%: 120 − 24 = 96
  4. 96 − 100 = −4, so a 4% fall
The shortcut

100 became 96: a 4% fall.

For four days, Arun Sharma sir will show you how he actually approaches arithmetic. This isn't a formula dump. You'll learn which shortcut fits which question, how to spot it fast, and when to skip a question and move on.

What we'll cover

Arithmetic is the most important area in CAT quant: expect 8 to 10 questions on it. Arun Sharma sir will take you through the shortcuts toppers use across every arithmetic chapter, and how to solve many of these questions without pen and paper.

  • Percentages, and why getting these right makes every other chapter faster
  • Profit, loss and discount without setting up CP/SP equations
  • Simple and compound interest in a single line
  • Ratios, mixtures and alligation
  • Time and work, pipes and cisterns
  • Time, speed and distance, including the relative speed questions most people skip
  • Averages

This is for you if

You're preparing for CAT and arithmetic still feels slow. Or you know plenty of shortcuts but freeze when it's time to pick one in a mock. That second group usually gets the most out of this.
